Robert MacIntyre addresses conduct at The Masters
Robert MacIntyre has addressed his controversial conduct at The Masters for the first time since the tournament, conceding his actions fell short of acceptable standards, reports BritPanorama.
The Scottish golfer spoke to Sky Sports’ Nick Dougherty following an impressive opening round at the RBC Heritage on Thursday, where he fired a five-under-par 66 at Harbour Town Golf Links. His performance stood in stark contrast to his previous outing at Augusta National, where he missed the cut after struggling through rounds of 80 and 71.
During his disappointing round at The Masters, MacIntyre’s play unravelled, culminating in a quadruple-bogey nine on the par-five 15th hole after two approach shots ended up in the water. The incidents were captured by television cameras, including an obscene gesture directed at the hazard, reflecting the frustrations he was experiencing throughout the day.
In response to the repercussions of his actions, where Augusta National officials reprimanded him, MacIntyre acknowledged the need for better emotional control but maintained that outside criticism did not weigh heavily on him. “I know what I’ve done isn’t the best way of me doing things, but look, I wear my heart on my sleeve,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to moving forward.
The two-time PGA Tour winner expressed confidence in the support from his close circle, highlighting their advice as his primary guide through the fallout from the tournament. “I don’t like things that get said elsewhere, that doesn’t faze me,” MacIntyre asserted, indicating his focus remains on the important voices in his life.
His performance at Harbour Town has positioned him in contention, currently sharing tenth place and sitting just three strokes behind early pacesetter Ludvig Aberg. Reflecting on his recovery from the previous week, MacIntyre noted, “Coming off last week and a disappointing performance, I was comfortable with the golf course. It suits my game, I’ve been in good shape, so I tried to put as much of last week behind me as I could.”
As the Scottish golfer continues his season, his ability to navigate past controversies and refocus on his game will be closely observed by fans and analysts alike, serving as a reminder of the intense pressures players face in the public eye.
