Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice among five players withdrawn from England squad
Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice are among five players who have pulled out of the England squad for the Three Lions’ upcoming Nations League matches, reports BritPanorama.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will play four matches during the extended international break, beginning with a fixture against Spain on Saturday. The other three absentees include Kobbie Mainoo, Tino Livramento, and Cole Palmer, with Palmer sidelined due to a minor injury.
In response to these withdrawals, Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Everton’s James Garner have been called up to join the squad.
After the match against Spain, England will face the Czech Republic, followed by games against Croatia and a return fixture against the Czech side at Wembley. Tuchel praised some of the Three Lions’ stars who are missed, particularly highlighting Mainoo’s previous performances.
Commenting on Mainoo, Tuchel stated, “I expect him to be on the pitch and it’s my duty to get him on the pitch. That was totally on me. He didn’t put a foot wrong during the World Cup.” He further explained the difficult decisions that led to selections, noting the strong competition for places among the players.
Tuchel also acknowledged Gibbs-White’s potential, despite initially opting for Palmer. “We can see the form that Morgan is in, and he ended the season very, very strongly and was the key player for Forest to not be relegated,” he remarked, underscoring the challenges of selection in a competitive environment.
As England prepares to kick off at 7.45 pm against Spain, interests will be on how the squad adapts in the absence of key players, showcasing the depth of talent as international duties loom once again.
