PSG edges Bayern Munich in thrilling Champions League semi-final

Paris Saint-Germain overcame Bayern Munich 5-4 in a pulsating Champions League semi-final first leg that delivered a remarkable spectacle, reports BritPanorama.

This match set a record as the highest-scoring semi-final in Champions League history. With nine goals scored and seven different players finding the net, the defending champions PSG will take a slender advantage into the second leg in Munich next week.

Both teams entered the contest as the tournament’s most potent attacking forces, showcasing their talents in front of an enthusiastic Parisian crowd. The atmosphere was electric, with fans creating an impressive display of support from the outset.

Bayern struck first as Harry Kane converted a penalty after Luis Diaz was fouled by William Pacho, marking his 58th goal of a remarkable season. This achievement further solidified Kane’s growing legacy, surpassing a record set by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

However, PSG swiftly responded. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia expertly curled a shot into the far corner to equalise, followed by Joao Neves’ glancing header from a corner that put the hosts ahead. Michael Olise then brought Bayern level again with a spectacular strike before Ousmane Dembélé converted a penalty at the end of the first half, sending PSG into the break with a narrow lead.

The second half continued to provide drama, as Kvaratskhelia scored his second goal after being left unmarked. Dembélé then reinforced PSG’s position with a third goal, extending their lead to 5-2. Bayern, determined and pressing for a comeback, struck back with goals from Dayot Upamecano and Diaz, ensuring the tie remains finely balanced ahead of the return leg on Wednesday, 6 May.

Bayern arrived in Paris as Bundesliga champions, still in contention for a Treble. With Vincent Kompany suspended from the touchline, Aaron Danks assumed coaching duties during this high-stakes fixture.

The winners of this thrilling encounter will advance to Budapest for the final, facing either Arsenal or Atletico Madrid, who meet in the other semi-final. After witnessing such a gripping clash, anticipation builds for the second leg; it promises to be another unforgettable encounter.
