Pierre Gasly reinstated to podium at Monaco Grand Prix
Formula One driver Pierre Gasly has been officially reinstated to the podium following the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, where his initial P3 finish had been revoked due to penalties imposed by race stewards, reports BritPanorama.
The French racer, who expressed being “heartbroken” after the penalties had caused him to drop to seventh place, can now celebrate his first-ever podium finish at Monaco. Alpine, Gasly’s team, successfully challenged the original decisions that had included two five-second time penalties.
On Thursday, Monaco race stewards convened via video conference with representatives from Alpine and the FIA to review the case ahead of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. Their reconsideration allowed for confirmation of Gasly’s reinstatement, arriving just before Friday’s first practice session.
Alpine demonstrated that the distance measurement used to calculate pit-lane timing had inaccuracies, leading to an erroneous assessment of Gasly’s speed. The stewards accepted this newly presented evidence as a “significant and relevant new element,” determining that Gasly had not exceeded the 60 km/h pit-lane limit.
As a result, Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar, previously classified third for the race, has now been reclassified, with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri moving down to fifth place. Gasly’s reinstatement marks a significant turnaround for the racing driver, who was among several participants penalised for speeding during the race.
In an official statement, Alpine welcomed the FIA’s decision, expressing gratitude for the transparency and cooperation during the review process. They confirmed that the penalties imposed on Gasly had been rescinded, allowing him to reclaim his place on the podium.
Gasly reflected on the ordeal, stating, “We all work so hard to get these moments, and then when it gets taken away from you for things which we need to review… I crossed the line in P3 in Monaco in front of all the fans, and in the end, we get penalised and finish far away. I don’t really know what to say.” The confirmation of his podium finish grants Gasly 15 points and restores his rightful place in the race’s final standings.
This reinstatement serves as a reminder of how quickly fortunes can shift in Formula One, marking a notable chapter in Gasly’s career and illustrating the complexities inherent in race regulations and results.
