Darts player Michael Smith has withdrawn from the Players Championship following the death of his dog, Luna. The 35-year-old made the decision to be with his family during this difficult time, reports BritPanorama.

In an emotional social media tribute, Smith shared the devastating news of Luna’s passing. He wrote about the moments leading up to her death, describing how she came into the living room, lay down, and then tragically passed away on the way to the vet. “We’re all going to miss you, Luna. We’re absolutely heartbroken,” he expressed.

Smith confirmed plans to take a week off to grieve and support his family. He noted, “I didn’t even have to think about it long that I won’t be playing in MK [Milton Keynes] this week as I’ll be staying home and taking care of my family.”

The darting community has rallied around Smith during this time, with over 15,000 fans expressing their condolences on his social media post. Darts referee Owen Binks offered his support, stating, “Sorry to hear this, Michael.”

Michael Smith has achieved considerable success throughout his career, winning a total of 26 PDC titles and is currently ranked 32nd in the world. His most notable triumph came in 2023 when he won the World Championship, decisively beating Michael Van Gerwen in the final with a score of 7-4.
