Manchester United poised for financial boost from Mason Greenwood transfer

Manchester United are set to receive a substantial financial windfall of approximately £15 million following Fenerbahce’s imminent acquisition of Mason Greenwood from Marseille, reports BritPanorama.

The Turkish giants are closing in on a deal worth around €45 million (£38.36 million) for the 24-year-old forward, with negotiations between the clubs progressing rapidly. Following United’s sale of Greenwood to Marseille for £26.6 million in July 2024, the Old Trafford club secured what they described as a “sizeable sell-on fee” in the agreement.

This clause is understood to be worth approximately 40 percent of any future transfer fee, meaning the Red Devils stand to benefit significantly from the deal without further involvement.

Fenerbahce have submitted a formal bid surpassing €40 million, including performance-related add-ons, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. Reports indicate that the Istanbul club has reached terms with Marseille on a package totaling €45 million plus an additional €5 million in bonuses, to be paid in instalments.

The current offer is close to Marseille’s €50 million asking price, with preparations underway to finalise the transfer. Greenwood has indicated his willingness to move to Turkey, where Fenerbahce are ready to offer him a lucrative contract.

The deal is expected to be completed by the weekend, with Greenwood set to sign a four-year agreement worth €11 million annually. Since arriving at the Vélodrome two years ago, Greenwood has enjoyed a prolific spell in France, netting 48 goals across 76 matches in all competitions.

Last season, his form saw him finish as joint runner-up in the Ligue 1 golden boot race, scoring 16 league goals to sit level with Rennes striker Esteban Lepaul. Although Roma had been linked with the former United academy graduate throughout the summer, the Serie A club never submitted an official approach to Marseille, allowing Fenerbahce to seize the initiative in negotiations.

In a market where every transfer can reshape club fortunes, Greenwood’s move represents not just a monetary gain for Manchester United but also a narrative of relocation and opportunity, reminding us how swiftly clubs must act or risk losing their targets to more decisive rivals.
