Luke Littler seeks historic win at Premier League of Darts
Luke Littler is chasing history in Birmingham on night 15 of the Premier League of Darts as the teenager promised “fireworks” during his matches, reports BritPanorama.
The back-to-back world champion is eyeing a record seventh nightly win, having secured victories in the last three tournaments held in Liverpool, Aberdeen, and Leeds.
Littler currently sits five points clear at the top of the table and can ensure a third consecutive top-placed finish if he defeats Jonny Clayton in the quarter-finals.
Prior to the event at the Utilita Arena, the world champion commented on his performance level, stating he must “keep going” to maintain his form.
“I’ve got a lot of confidence and now I can go chasing my own records within the next two weeks,” Littler said. “After the win against Jonny last week, I knew I was a few points clear. I’ve just got to keep top spot now.” He added, “I think it will be a very good game against Jonny. He will be wanting the win, I’ll be wanting the win, so expect fireworks.”
Clayton has already secured a place in the play-offs at the O2 Arena scheduled for May 28, though the final two slots remain up for grabs.
In the broader top tier, Gerwyn Price and Luke Humphries join Littler in the leading four, with Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen nipping at their heels.
Van Gerwen is set to face Price in tomorrow’s quarter-finals, expressing confidence in his ability following a midweek victory at a Players Championship event in Leicester. “I believe in my own ability and I think I’m playing some good darts,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Humphries looks to build on a recent final appearance, where he lost to Littler, as he prepares to meet Stephen Bunting, currently struggling to gain traction this season.
In another quarter-final, Van Veen will go against Josh Rock, who has struggled throughout the season and remains without sufficient points to compete effectively.
With just a couple more nights of action left in the season, the elite players will head to Sheffield next week before culminating in the finals night in the capital.
As the competition heats up, one can’t help but feel the palpable tension — how talent and tenacity collide on that stage, inviting both excitement and intrigue for what lies ahead.
