Lando Norris claims 2025 Formula 1 World Championship
Lando Norris has claimed the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, marking the first British title winner since Lewis Hamilton’s victory in 2020, reports BritPanorama.
Following the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Hamilton expressed his happiness for Norris, stating, “Winning your first world title is special, and the UK continues to pump out talented drivers. I am really proud of him.”
Hamilton, now 40, shared that he advised Norris before the race weekend to remain authentic amidst any external criticism. He reiterated support, saying, “What he has been doing is great, and don’t change it.”
This congratulatory note comes in light of a previously strained relationship between the two drivers. Norris had earlier made comments about Hamilton during the latter’s challenging times in the ground-effect era, which began in 2022, hinting that Hamilton’s dominant days were behind him.
Norris’s championship victory signifies McLaren’s first drivers’ championship since Hamilton’s win in 2008. Hamilton, who previously dominated with Mercedes under different regulations, faced a tough season with Ferrari in 2025, failing to secure any podium finishes, with fourth-place results being his best outcomes.
This year was marked by several disappointments for Hamilton, who openly voiced his frustrations regarding the current generation of cars. Ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, he remarked, “There’s not a single thing I’ll miss about these cars…I have not enjoyed it.”
As Hamilton prepares for a winter break, intending to disconnect from the sport entirely, he mentioned this would be an unprecedented measure for him, highlighting the intense demands that the role incurs. “I’m looking forward to that. Just completely unplugged from the matrix,” he stated, signifying a need for rest after a taxing season.
In a sport where the scales of success can tip unpredictably, Norris’s achievement serves as a reminder of the cyclical nature of competition and the personal evolution athletes undergo, molding the narrative of Formula 1 and the legacy of its racers.
