Scottie Scheffler completes comeback at Tour Championship
Scottie Scheffler completed a dramatic comeback at the Tour Championship, claiming his second FedExCup title and surpassing Tiger Woods at the top of the PGA Tour’s career money list, reports BritPanorama.
The world No 1 entered the final round at East Lake Golf Club trailing by three strokes but delivered a four-under-par 66 to finish on 16 under, three shots ahead of Viktor Hovland. Tour Championship debutant Ryan Gerard secured third place at 12 under.
Scheffler’s victory earned him $10 million (£7.4 million), increasing his official PGA Tour career earnings to $130,390,661, surpassing Woods’ long-standing total of $120,999,166 accumulated over 26 years. Rory McIlroy ranks third with $119,555,514.
Relishing his comeback, Scheffler reflected on the week positively, stating, “This was a week I brought a lot of good energy to the course and tried to do my best. Coming from behind and being able to win tournaments is a really cool feeling.” His performance showcased his ability to handle pressure, ultimately securing his position at the top.
Scheffler applied immediate pressure on Hovland, almost sinking a five-iron at the short second hole. A 25-foot birdie on the fourth hole allowed him to level the leaderboard. Despite briefly falling back with bogeys at the seventh and 14th, he regained control and clinched the outright lead by the 13th hole.
At the par-four 16th, Scheffler demonstrated further skill, finding the green from a fairway bunker and converting an 11-foot birdie putt. He finished the round without further errors, sealing another title that marked his 22nd PGA Tour win and 25th victory overall.
His final score of 66 was the lowest of the day and his best performance on a Sunday at East Lake since 2020. This victory extended a notable streak of 12 consecutive rounds in the 60s at the Atlanta course, with Scheffler being the only player from the final three groups to finish under par.
Scheffler’s accomplishments now place him alongside Woods and McIlroy as the only players to win multiple FedExCup titles. Woods achieved the feat in 2007 and 2009, while McIlroy remains the competition’s most successful player with three wins.
Previously, Scheffler secured the season-long prize in 2024 and has now recorded multiple Tour victories in five successive seasons. This year alone, he has produced 13 top-five finishes from 20 starts, including five second-place results, and could match Woods’ record of winning the Jack Nicklaus Award as PGA Tour Player of the Year for a fifth consecutive year.
