Lando Norris predicts more chaos in Formula 1 races

Lando Norris has predicted that this season’s Formula 1 will bring “more chaos in races” as new rules come into force, reports BritPanorama.

The sport is undergoing its biggest regulatory change in history, with new requirements for engines, chassis, fuel, and tyres. This overhaul is set to alter the dynamics of racing significantly.

Norris stated, “You’re going to see more chaos in races where a driver has to be a little bit more on top of all of these different situations that can happen.” He anticipates that the changes will increase the need for drivers to adapt quickly throughout the season.

The introduction of a new ‘boost button’ is expected to give drivers an extra burst of electrical energy, facilitating more overtaking opportunities. Norris emphasized, “You’ll be able to force people more in different positions and create racing potentially in better ways than you have been able to in the past.”

Following tests in Barcelona last week, Norris expressed confidence in McLaren’s new car, stating it “certainly feels more powerful and quicker” on the straight. He envisions that drivers will switch positions more frequently during races, resulting in “more yo-yoing” and increased strategic complexity.

Norris remarked on the challenges posed by the new regulations, particularly in battery management: “The biggest challenge at the minute is battery management and knowing how to utilise that in the best way.” He pointed out the intricacies involved in energy distribution and the management of turbo lag, asserting that these challenges are inherent to the evolving nature of Formula 1.

In anticipation of the upcoming pre-season tests in Bahrain, which begin on February 11, Norris concluded with a reflection on how the new rules could rejuvenate the racing experience. “Quite a lot more corners that were easy flat in previous years… are going to become much bigger corners again,” he said, suggesting that spectators might witness a more dynamic and engaging racing environment.
