Jake Paul resumes light training four months after injury in Anthony Joshua fight

Jake Paul has returned to the gym for the first time since suffering a severely fractured jaw during his bout against Anthony Joshua last December, reports BritPanorama.

The incident occurred when Paul, 29, stepped up to heavyweight for the Miami fight, where he was stopped in the sixth round by the former unified champion. The injury resulted in multiple fractures, requiring two surgical procedures for recovery.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Paul has commenced light training, recently sharing videos of himself hitting the heavy bag at his facility in Puerto Rico. The recovery process had previously prohibited him from engaging in sparring sessions, limiting his training options significantly.

Boxing authorities have placed Paul under an indefinite suspension until a medical professional clears him to compete again. The lengthy restrictions on his training were necessary due to the vibrations caused during heavy bag work, which inhibited the healing of his jaw.

Now able to resume striking, he expressed his desire to return to the ring. “I miss boxing. But the time off definitely refills that energy and helped me miss it,” Paul remarked. He suggested that the enforced absence has provided him with a renewed perspective after years of continuous competition.

Regarding his transition back to training, Paul stated, “I actually just started getting back into training because hitting the heavy bag creates the vibration through the face and the jaw wasn’t able to heal doing that. But now it’s at a point where I can actually hit the heavy bag.”

Looking ahead, Paul plans to compete at cruiserweight, aiming to capture a world championship belt rather than staying at heavyweight. He reflected on his demanding schedule, noting, “I’ve been really pushing it the past six years, almost averaging three fights a year.” This break has fostered a renewed ambition as he contemplates his future in the sport.

In a world where sport often mirrors the complexities of life, Paul’s return serves as a reminder of the rigours faced by athletes and the resilience required to bounce back from adversity. The journey ahead remains uncertain, but his spirit to re-engage with the sport is undeniably palpable.
