Ivan Toney pleads not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm
Ivan Toney has pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm after being accused of attacking a man at a nightclub in London’s Soho, reports BritPanorama.
The 30-year-old England striker entered his plea at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday concerning an alleged incident that took place at a nightclub on Wardour Street in central London on December 6 last year.
Toney arrived at court shortly after 9.30am, accompanied by three members of his entourage, ahead of a hearing scheduled for 10am. The Al-Ahli forward, originally from Northampton, was charged on July 31 following an investigation conducted by the Metropolitan Police.
Prior to this appearance, Toney had denied the allegation through a representative when the case first emerged publicly. “Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court,” a spokesman stated. This hearing followed a postponement of his initial court date, which was originally set for September 24.
The allegations pertain to an incident prior to Toney’s representation of England at the World Cup during the summer of 2025. Having made ten appearances for the national team and scored once since his debut in March 2023, the striker’s career trajectory has been notable.
He recently transitioned to the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli after a successful stint with Brentford, which included helping secure the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021 through a standout performance where he netted 31 goals in the Championship regular season.
While his career has flourished, the latest development underscores the unpredictability that can shadow even the most accomplished athletes. Toney’s situation serves as a reminder of the challenges faced in the spotlight where fame and scrutiny intertwine, and the implications of personal actions can resonate far beyond the pitch.
