Premier League footballer escapes injury in car crash near Hull City’s training ground

A Premier League footballer has escaped injury after his car overturned near Hull City’s training ground, less than three weeks after a team-mate crashed on the same road, reports BritPanorama.

Lucas Gourna-Douath is believed to have been behind the wheel of a Mercedes pictured lying on its side on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham on Thursday morning. Humberside Police confirmed emergency services attended the collision, and stated that no one was injured.

The incident follows a crash involving Wales winger Sorba Thomas, whose Land Rover Defender overturned near the club’s training base last month. Police’s statement confirmed the location, time, and absence of injuries but did not name the driver or clarify how the vehicle overturned.

Photographs shared on social media depicted the Mercedes resting on its side, with two police officers nearby. Local councillor Phil Redshaw noted there had been “a few near misses” on the road and expressed concerns over the safety of players driving through the area.

Redshaw said, “I wrote to the Hull City club secretary on Sunday asking them to remind players to be careful driving down the road because of the residents’ concerns.” He called for increased caution among club staff, particularly with new players joining each season.

The cause of Thursday’s collision has not yet been established. Thomas, 27, was previously involved in his crash on September 11, with images showing his Land Rover Defender overturned and damaged.

Hull City confirmed that Thomas was uninjured in his accident, stating, “The club is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground.”

As two incidents in such a short span prompt scrutiny of road safety for players, the local community’s concerns underscore the delicate balance between the fast-paced life of professional athletes and the environments they navigate.
