Hull City fined for homophobic chanting during FA Cup match
The Football Association has imposed a £30,000 penalty on Hull City after the club failed to prevent homophobic chanting by its supporters during their FA Cup clash with Chelsea earlier this year, reports BritPanorama.

As a consequence, three individuals were arrested on suspicion of engaging in homophobic chanting, and Hull City confirmed that three supporters received bans of no fewer than three years for their conduct during the fixture.
The club has been required to implement an action plan with corrective measures to prevent any recurrence of such incidents. The FA’s charge specifically alleged that Hull City had failed to ensure its spectators did not “use words or behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, indecent or insulting way with a reference—whether express or implied—to sexual orientation.” Hull City accepted both the charge and the accompanying financial sanction.
In response to these developments, the club issued a strong statement condemning the offensive language used by some supporters. “Hull City condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the offensive and inappropriate language used by the supporters responsible,” the statement read, characterising the chant as a homophobic slur that may constitute a hate crime. The club warned that those using the chant risk both arrest and criminal prosecution.
Ahead of their upcoming match, Hull reiterated its stance on discrimination, stating, “Discrimination of any kind is wholly unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” making it clear that offenders will face the full weight of the law. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from within Hull’s supporter base, with one fan group calling the chanting a “stain on our game,” reflecting a growing determination among the club’s faithful to eradicate such conduct.
