Gerwyn Price endorses Reform UK, criticizes Plaid Cymru's political approach

Gerwyn Price expresses support for Reform UK as a political alternative in Wales

Welsh darts star Gerwyn Price has stated that he believes Reform UK “will be the future of Wales” while sharply criticising Plaid Cymru, reports BritPanorama.

In a recent Facebook post, the former world champion revealed that he voted for the first time in local elections, choosing Nigel Farage’s party. He contends that Reform UK represents genuine voters seeking change, contrasting that with Plaid Cymru, which he describes as attracting tactical voters who lack clarity about their objectives.

Price shared a photograph of his ballot paper, clearly marked next to Reform UK Wales. He tweeted in a lighter vein, linking his political views with his business, saying, “I hope they were good chips. They will taste even better if Reform UK Wales have good news tomorrow,” when commenting on a customer at his family-run takeaway.

Price has been increasingly vocal about his support for Reform UK and has used social media to critique mainstream political parties. He has accused both Labour and Plaid Cymru of neglecting Welsh communities, asserting that Reform UK offers a new direction that resonates with voters frustrated by the status quo. His comments have sparked online reactions, with supporters praising him for speaking openly about politics.

While some users applauded his candour, others have been critical, suggesting his remarks risk spreading division. Nonetheless, Price’s backing is seen as crucial for Reform UK Wales as it aims to engage voters concerned about immigration, public services, and the cost of living ahead of upcoming elections.

Having transitioned from a career in rugby union to darts full-time in 2014, Price quickly established himself in the Professional Darts Corporation, winning the PDC World Championship in 2021 and several major titles. His dynamic personality and passionate celebrations have made him one of the sport’s most recognisable figures.

As the political landscape in Wales evolves, Price’s foray into politics illustrates the intersection of sport and public discourse, reminding us how athletes can leverage their visibility to engage in political dialogue, even as opinions divide.
