Gerwyn Price clarifies participation in World Cup of Darts
Gerwyn Price has sparked confusion following reports that the darting star would miss out on the upcoming World Cup of Darts, reports BritPanorama.
The Iceman, 41, was initially not listed in the Welsh line-up, with Jonny Clayton set to partner up with Nick Kenny. However, Price relieved fans’ concerns by taking to Instagram, stating, “Just to clarify, I have not withdrawn from the World Cup because of health reasons,” accompanied by three thumbs-up emojis.
While he admitted to struggling with his health during last week’s Premier League of Darts, Price insisted, “My focus is there, but health-wise I’m not in a great place at the moment. But I’m battling on, searching for some results. Hopefully, over the next few weeks, they will come and put me at ease.”
The World Cup commences next month in Frankfurt. World champion Luke Littler will team up with world number two Luke Humphries, making them the tournament’s top seeds for the competition scheduled from June 11-14.
As top seeds, England will skip the group stage entirely and enter straight into round two, alongside the Netherlands, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Defending champions Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney from Northern Ireland return to Frankfurt, ensuring a competitive atmosphere.
Scotland, represented by Gary Anderson partnering with Cameron Menzies, will be aiming to bounce back after last year’s heavy defeat to the Netherlands. This year’s competition also sees new entrants from Uganda, Trinidad and Tobago, and Mongolia, each hoping to make an impression on the global stage. Veteran player Paul Lim returns, adding a nostalgic touch to the tournament.
Price’s situation highlights the often unpredictable nature of elite sport, reminding us how quickly narratives can shift. In the world of darts, where precision is paramount and health can falter, fans will be keenly watching whether Price’s comeback can ignite a fresh chapter in his competitive journey.
