Gareth Barry reveals his message to James Milner after appearance record is surpassed

Milner breaks Premier League appearance record

James Milner has surpassed Gareth Barry’s long-standing record of 653 Premier League appearances, making his 654th appearance during a match against Brentford, reports BritPanorama.

Milner’s achievement was celebrated by Barry, who revealed that he reached out with a congratulatory message following the record-breaking match. “James was an ex-teammate at Villa, Man City, England. So I did send him a congratulations message and said: ‘Well done,'” Barry stated.

Despite Milner now holding the record for appearances, Barry retains his status as the player with the most minutes played in the Premier League, amassing 54,434 minutes, which is 13,589 more than Milner. Furthermore, he leads with 618 starting appearances, having 47 more than the next closest player, David James.

When queried about the potential for his records to be broken, Barry expressed belief in the evolving nature of footballers’ careers, stating, “Things keep improving. Players seem to be playing for longer, so I think eventually these records will be broken.” He also mentioned the presence of younger players capable of challenging those records, citing Declan Rice as an example.

Looking ahead, Barry is optimistic about his former club, Aston Villa, as they prepare for their Europa League semi-final against Nottingham Forest. “I think they’re worthy favourites for a reason, the manager has obviously been there and done it before,” he remarked, indicating confidence in their ability to progress and potentially lift the trophy.

As Villa gears up for their crucial match at the City Ground, the anticipation builds not only for the business at hand but for how Milner’s milestone may inspire both his team and future generations in the league.
