Eddie Hearn announces Anthony Joshua’s return to the ring
Eddie Hearn has revealed that Anthony Joshua is set to return to the ring before the end of the year, reports BritPanorama.
The British boxing star last fought in September 2024, when he was knocked out by Daniel Dubois at Wembley. Following more than a year away from the ring due to elbow surgery, promoter Hearn expressed optimism regarding Joshua’s comeback.
When asked if Joshua would fight at one of three Matchroom events scheduled for November 15, December 13, or December 27, Hearn confirmed, “Yes.” He added, “All I’m saying is, if he fights this year, it will just be a run out fight.” Hearn cautioned against jumping into a high-stakes match after an extended absence, emphasizing that “it isn’t about the money in this fight this year.”
There have been speculations regarding a potential fight against rival Tyson Fury, although Fury has since retired. Joshua is also linked to possible bouts in Africa in early 2026, with contenders like Tony Yoka emerging as candidates. He could potentially feature on the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr’s rematch against Conor Benn on November 15 or appear in the US as part of the undercard for Diego Pacheco versus Kevin Lele Sadjo on December 13 in California.
The final opportunity for Joshua to fight this year will be on December 27 in Saudi Arabia, where Naoya Inoue is booked to appear. As Joshua awaits official confirmation of his next steps, it remains likely that he will face less prominent opponents should he take on an undercard position.
As Joshua embarks on this new chapter, it is difficult not to reflect on the complexities that surround his journey back into the squared circle. A former champion, now navigating not just the physical demands of the sport, but also the evolving landscape of heavyweight boxing, Joshua’s return will undoubtedly capture the imaginations of fans eager for his next moves.
