Charlie Woods qualifies for US Junior Amateur Championship
Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has successfully qualified for the US Junior Amateur Championship by winning a three-for-one play-off at Heathrow Country Club in Lake Mary, Florida, reports BritPanorama.
The competition allowed the top five players to advance, with Charlie tying for fifth alongside Eric Zhao and Nathan Erickson. His victory in the play-off secures his place in the championship, which is set to take place from July 20-25.
Although Charlie Woods struggled to make the cut in both the 2024 and 2025 events when his father participated, he now has the opportunity to showcase his skills on a larger stage. Tiger Woods, who is a three-time champion of this event, holds the record as the only player to achieve this feat—winning in 1991, 1992, and 1993.
Charlie’s upcoming appearance adds to a lineage of notable competitors in the championship, which has seen previous winners like Johnny Miller in 1964 and Scottie Scheffler in 2013. Meanwhile, Tiger continues to face challenges in his return to competitive golf, with reports indicating he will miss all four major championships this season, heightening the spotlight on his son’s achievements.
Woods has been sidelined since his seventh back surgery in October and has also dealt with injuries that have further complicated his return. In a recent assessment, he will not participate in either the US Open or the Open Championship in 2025, marking a challenging chapter in his career.
The contrast between a father’s struggles and a son’s burgeoning talent underscores the complexities of sporting legacies. For Charlie, the US Junior Amateur Championship represents a significant milestone, irrespective of the towering shadows cast by his father’s illustrious career.
