Celtic condemns pitch invasion following title win as Hearts players allegedly assaulted

Celtic responds to pitch invasion during title celebration

Celtic has issued a statement following the chaotic scenes that overshadowed their Scottish Premiership title triumph against Hearts at Parkhead on Saturday, reports BritPanorama.

While celebrating their 56th league championship after a decisive win capped by Callum Osmand’s third goal, a number of supporters surged onto the pitch, disrupting the moment. The club expressed its regret over this behaviour, noting that “a number of individuals” entered the field during the post-match celebrations.

The statement emphasized that there is “no justification” for such actions, asserting that these disruptions detract from the joy of such significant victories. It further clarified that the overwhelming majority of their fanbase do not condone pitch invasions, as they often lead to negative consequences.

Police Scotland is now investigating whether any Hearts players were physically assaulted during the pitch invasion, with officials reviewing the circumstances of the incident. Celtic confirmed that they would collaborate with both the police and the Scottish Professional Football League’s inquiry into the matter.

Hearts have also responded, branding the events as “menacing and threatening,” resulting in their players and staff leaving the stadium without being able to thank their supporters. Police are currently checking with Hearts to ascertain the full extent of the repercussions for the visiting team.

Celtic has apologized directly to Hearts for the distress caused during this chaotic scene, highlighting the need for sportsmanship and respect towards all teams involved. The events serve as a reminder of the thin line that often exists between celebration and chaos within the passionate world of football.
