Birmingham City forward charged with drink driving

Birmingham City forward Marvin Ducksch has been charged with drink driving after a collision involving three vehicles on Easter Monday evening near the club’s training facilities, reports BritPanorama.

Warwickshire Police confirmed officers responded to reports of the incident on the A3400 near Henley-in-Arden at approximately 10.30pm on April 6. The 32-year-old Solihull resident was arrested at the scene and formally charged on April 13.

Ducksch has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear before Warwickshire Magistrates in Leamington on May 20. The club has acknowledged the charge, confirming that it relates to an offence of driving with excess alcohol.

In an official statement, Ducksch expressed remorse for his actions, stating, “Marvin wishes to apologise to his teammates, staff and supporters of the club and accepts full responsibility for his actions.” Birmingham City’s statement indicated that the matter has been addressed through internal disciplinary procedures, adding, “The matter has been dealt with internally and no further comment will be made at this time.”

The charge explains Ducksch’s absence from the matchday squad when Birmingham defeated promotion-chasing Wrexham 2-0 on Sunday. Head coach Chris Davies addressed inquiries about the striker’s omission following the match, indicating, “It’s an internal matter which is currently being dealt with and that is, at this moment in time, all I can say.”

Second-half goals from Carlos Vicente and Christoph Klarer secured the win, preventing a fourth consecutive league defeat for the Blues. When questioned about Ducksch’s potential availability for Birmingham’s forthcoming Championship fixture against Hull City on April 18, Davies refrained from confirming whether the player would feature.

Having arrived at St Andrew’s last August from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, Ducksch signed a three-year contract with the Championship club. In his debut season with Birmingham, he has contributed 11 goals across 35 appearances, 10 of which have come in league matches, underscoring his importance to the team’s attacking options.

As this incident unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of how even celebrated sports figures can falter, illustrating the thin line athletes tread between their professional and personal lives.
