Amy Hunt celebrates historic gold with KFC feast
Amy Hunt celebrated her historic fourth gold medal after dominating the mixed 4x100m relay final at the European Championships, a win that was witnessed by a sold-out crowd at the Alexander Stadium, reports BritPanorama.
The 24-year-old achieved a remarkable quadruple, securing her place in athletics history. Upon returning to her team’s hotel in Birmingham, Hunt’s celebrations extended into the early hours of the morning, eventually leading her to bed at 4 am.
During her evening of revelry, she shared, “I had a glass of champagne and a KFC, and it was amazing. It was one of the best-tasting KFCs I’ve had in my life.” After a late-night massage, Hunt reflected on her night, “And then I got into bed finally at 4am with a very not packed suitcase.”
Among her treasures, her parents had left her a sentimental gift: a pair of earrings alongside a note that read, “Time for gold.” This gesture deeply moved her. “I am usually a silver jewellery girl… It got the waterworks going,” she admitted.
The athlete’s success drew significant public interest, evidenced by a peak BBC viewing audience of 4.2 million. Hunt expressed her message to aspiring athletes, advocating for ambition and boldness. “Why not be ambitious? We’re all thinking these things, so why not just say them out loud?”
She elaborated further on her mindset while competing, stating that confidence is critical, especially in sprinting. “I have to be so utterly convinced of myself, my own power, my own strength, my own speed, and my own methodology,” she said. Hunt believes her assertiveness is beneficial to the sport, encouraging greater public engagement with athletics.
Looking ahead, Hunt has her sights set on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, already planning to participate in upcoming Diamond League fixtures and the inaugural World Ultimate Championships. She aims to use these competitions as experience to optimise her performance for the Olympics. “We wanted to get those rounds in my legs, see how that truly feels and test out our recovery strategies,” she explained.
In a sport where confidence and ambition are paramount, Hunt’s journey serves as a vivid reminder of the unyielding spirit of athletes. Her approach embodies a message that resonates beyond the tracks — a call to be bold and pursue one’s aspirations unapologetically.
