Alf-Inge Haaland reacts furiously as England triumph over Norway

Alf-Inge Haaland was visibly incensed in the stands at the Hard Rock Stadium as England eliminated Norway from the World Cup in a dramatic quarter-final encounter on Saturday evening, reports BritPanorama.

The former Premier League midfielder, aged 53, was seen on the big screen making a vulgar two-finger gesture towards England supporters following a controversial VAR decision.

Referee Clement Turpin had initially awarded England a penalty after substitute Djed Spence went down in the box, but the decision was reversed after a video review. Cameras showed Haaland signalling that Spence had dived before gesturing offensively and appearing to direct expletives at the crowd.

Norway’s discontent stemmed from two key officiating decisions that went against them. Earlier, Torbjorn Heggem had scored after Jordan Pickford parried Alexander Sorloth’s shot, but VAR disallowed the goal, finding that Erling Haaland had illegally impeded Elliot Anderson while trying to create space.

The contentious penalty reversal in extra time compounded Norway’s frustrations, with officials determining that Spence had initiated contact rather than being fouled. Haaland’s outburst extended beyond the stadium as he took to social media post-match to deliver a sarcastic message aimed at match officials and England’s two-goal hero Jude Bellingham, stating, “Well done Bellingham and referee,” following a post highlighting Bellingham’s performance.

This pointed remark attracted a flurry of responses from elated England fans, who took the opportunity to mock Haaland, indicating that his displeasure directly referenced the disallowed goal and its potential impact on the match outcome. Bellingham’s outstanding display, which included a goal that equalised Norway’s earlier lead, proved decisive for England.

Notably, although Erling Haaland had come into the matchup boasting seven goals from four games, he found England’s defence obstinate and was unexpectedly substituted during extra time. With this victory, England now progresses to face either Argentina or Switzerland in the next round in Atlanta on Wednesday.

In the whirlwind of this gripping match, one is reminded of how the hopes of nations can hinge on mere moments—an uncomfortable dance between fortune and fate, where the line between glory and despair can be drawn by the most contentious of calls.
