Nottingham Forest part ways with Edu Gaspar
Nottingham Forest have sacked their global head of football, Edu Gaspar, after just over a year at the club, reports BritPanorama. The former Arsenal midfielder was appointed ahead of the previous season, entrusted with responsibilities that included recruitment, squad strategy, player development, and performance oversight.
However, his tenure at the City Ground has been described as brief and troubled. It is understood that Edu has been absent from the club since the early months of this year, according to The Telegraph. His last attendance at a match dates back to a Premier League home loss against Liverpool on February 22, and he has not returned to either the training ground or the stadium since then.
Edu’s time at Forest was characterized by a noted falling out with former head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed after just three matches into the current campaign. From Edu’s viewpoint, the role did not fulfill his initial expectations when he took it on.
While the club has not issued a formal announcement regarding his departure, Edu’s name has already been removed from the official club website, indicating a clear shift in direction. His recruitment efforts, described as lacking, have left much to be desired; he was involved in several signings with South American ties, including Igor Jesus from Botafogo, as well as the acquisition of winger Omari Hutchinson and loan arrangements for Douglas Luiz and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The impact of his transfer activities is evident, with three of these players no longer part of Forest’s squad. Hutchinson recently moved on loan to AC Milan, marking a further blow to the recruitment strategy under Edu’s oversight.
