Keir Starmer signs with talent agency
Ousted Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has signed with high-profile talent agency M+C Saatchi Talent, which also represents celebrities such as Freddie Flintoff, reports BritPanorama.
Starmer, who has transitioned to focusing on international affairs and combating violence against women and girls, recently vacated his seat as the Member of Parliament for Holborn and St Pancras after 11 years. He resigned from his role as Prime Minister in July, paving the way for a new career path.
The agency, primarily known for representing showbiz personalities, does have political connections, including ex-Labour spin doctor Alastair Campbell. Sources suggest that Starmer will be oriented towards high-profile speaking engagements rather than reality television projects.
This move aligns him with a trend among former Prime Ministers who capitalize on lucrative opportunities in the speaking circuit post-office. Notable examples include Boris Johnson, who received £360,000 for a speech shortly after leaving number 10, and Liz Truss, who accrued £250,000 in fees during her first year out of office. Rishi Sunak also reported a substantial fee of £160,000 for a single event.
M+C Saatchi Group, the agency’s parent company, is historically linked to political campaigning, notably creating the “New Labour, New Danger” posters for the Conservative Party in 1997, although these did not hinder Tony Blair’s landslide victory that year.
Starmer’s exit from politics signals a substantial shift in his career, and it remains to be seen how this new chapter will unfold.
This development reflects broader trends in how political figures navigate their post-office careers. The potential for lucrative engagements often underscores the blurred lines between politics and public speaking, with former leaders leveraging their experiences for financial gain.
