Lulu’s remarkable comeback with ‘I’m in Love Again’
Scottish singer Lulu has emerged once again in the music scene, with her latest single, “I’m in Love Again,” topping BBC Radio 2 charts after a decade-long hiatus, reports BritPanorama. The 77-year-old artist, reflecting on her resurgence, described the unexpected joy of fans approaching her in the streets, expressing excitement for her new work.
Following a performance at the Radio 2 in the Park festival in Stirling, Lulu is set to release her new album, Let the Girl Sing Out, in January. The album features an Ibiza-inspired dance track, marking a new musical direction for the artist who first gained fame in the 1960s. Lulu shared her long-standing connection to Ibiza, where she first resided as a teenager while married to Bee Gees’ Maurice Gibb. She has fond memories of the island, which she describes as a place of solace and inspiration for her music.
Despite the romantic themes of her new single, Lulu insists the lyrics stem from her passion for music rather than personal experiences. “My love is music,” she stated, emphasizing the healing nature of her craft. Her memoir, If Only You Knew, delves into her tumultuous past, revealing a backstory of early success, family trauma, and personal struggles, including her battle with addiction and the long-term effects of witnessing domestic abuse.
The artist is keen to give back to the younger generation of female musicians, highlighting their achievements and the challenges they face. Reflecting on her experiences in the spotlight, Lulu acknowledged the pressures that shaped her early career, including demands to alter her image and public persona. She recalled wishing to embrace the rock and gospel music she loved, often feeling restrained by industry expectations.
Having maintained a career spanning over six decades, Lulu continues to explore her artistic vision, now taking a more active role in co-writing and directing her music. She expressed gratitude for the creative freedom she has reclaimed, marking her upcoming project as a rejuvenating chapter in her life.
