Ukraine conducted an overnight attack on the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara, southeast of Moscow, which is a significant fuel supplier for central Russia, reports BritPanorama.
The strike involved multiple drones that hit their targets, resulting in a substantial fire at the facility, according to a statement from Ukrainian special forces. This refinery, owned by Rosneft, had previously been targeted by Ukraine in June.
Casualties from the attack included one fatality and four injuries, as confirmed by regional Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, who stated that “the enemy targeted industrial facilities” but did not specify which ones.
In a broader escalation, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that its forces intercepted 297 Ukrainian drones across 14 regions overnight, including the annexed Crimean Peninsula. Concurrently, Russian strikes on Ukraine employed a range of munitions, including anti-ship and ballistic missiles, as well as over 200 drones. These assaults led to four deaths in Dnipro, according to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration.
Additionally, the strikes inflicted damage on homes, businesses, and storage facilities throughout various Ukrainian regions, injuring at least five individuals, with some casualties reported in the capital, Kyiv. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have targeted key sectors in Ukraine such as the metallurgical and chemical industries, the fuel and energy sector, and military-industrial infrastructure. Notable targets included a Fire Point plant in Kyiv, which produces components for long-range cruise missiles, and a tobacco factory in the Poltava region involved in small arms ammunition production.
Ukraine’s ongoing military strategy appears focused on disrupting Russian supply lines while simultaneously responding to a substantial Russian aerial offensive. The conflict continues to evolve with both sides escalating their military actions.
