Jordon Brown hospitalised after EFL opener
Blackpool centre-back Jordon Brown was taken to hospital following the club’s EFL curtain-raiser against Wycombe Wanderers last weekend, reports BritPanorama.
The 25-year-old had been named in the starting lineup despite battling a chest infection, but was withdrawn during the first half after visibly struggling on the pitch. His condition notably deteriorated shortly after the match, prompting club manager Ian Evatt to disclose the severity of the situation.
Manager Evatt stated that Brown’s infection triggered a serious reaction requiring medical attention, which took both the club and his family by surprise. “He’s had a rough week,” Evatt said in a media briefing, describing how the situation quickly escalated post-game.
Evatt elaborated on the gravity of Brown’s condition, emphasising it was “a lot more serious than what it first looked when he came off.” He explained that while Brown had been managing his chest infection, the reaction ultimately resulted in hospitalisation.
During the match, it became evident that Brown’s situation was serious, though the full extent was not understood until after play concluded. Evatt acknowledged, “It was pretty scary for him and his family, first and foremost,” highlighting the human aspect amid the medical concerns.
Fortunately, Brown has since been released from hospital with encouraging medical results. “All of the tests and scans he’s had are clear, but now he’s in the process of building himself back up again to be able to play,” Evatt confirmed. He noted that a few more checks remain before Brown can resume training.
Evatt expressed hope that by the end of the week, the defender would be in a position to return to the pitch. The episode serves as a stark reminder of the physical risks athletes face, underscoring how quickly the game can turn from celebration to concern.
