President Donald Trump has declared the Strait of Hormuz as US territory in a new post on Truth Social, reports BritPanorama.
In a controversial statement, he shared a map indicating the vital shipping route marked as “NEW US territory.” Trump asserted that “the Naval Blockade remains in full force and effect” and noted that the Strait of Hormuz is “open and operating,” claiming that all water mines have been removed or detonated.
However, data from Kpler indicates a significant decrease in vessel traffic, with only ten ships passing through on Monday, compared to the usual 130 to 140 vessels prior to the onset of hostilities.
Trump also mentioned that there are “no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled” with Iran, despite the Islamic Republic stating that the shipping route will remain closed until the US meets conditions outlined in an interim deal, according to top negotiator Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf.
These conditions reportedly include the lifting of a marine blockade and the release of Iran’s frozen assets. Furthermore, Trump has threatened military action against Oman, a US ally, should it impede his efforts to negotiate a peace deal with Iran.
