Steven Gerrard takes on expanded role with TNT Sports ahead of new season
Steven Gerrard has secured an enhanced broadcasting position just days ahead of the new Premier League season, reports BritPanorama.
The former Liverpool captain is set to be a “regular presence throughout the campaign” as part of TNT Sports’ extensive football coverage for the 2026-27 season.
Gerrard, 44, will provide analysis on Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup fixtures, with TNT Sports planning to air more than 700 matches across its competitions. His involvement extends beyond studio analysis; he is also expected to join the commentary booth on select occasions, collaborating with notable commentators such as Darren Fletcher and Sam Matterface.
This move is designed to strengthen a sizeable punditry team ahead of what promises to be a packed season of domestic and European football.
Other well-known figures joining the punditry team include Joe Cole, Ally McCoist, and Owen Hargreaves, as well as newcomers like Glenn Hoddle and Lucy Ward. Scott Young, EVP of WBD Sports Europe, emphasized that with over 700 live matches, TNT Sports and HBO Max aim to be a critical destination for football fans this season.
Young highlighted the comprehensive nature of their coverage, stating: “We’re looking forward to taking football coverage to a whole new level.” He also noted that the offering will expand beyond live matches, featuring documentaries, exclusive features, and behind-the-scenes content throughout the season.
TNT Sports is set to kick off its Premier League coverage on August 22, starting with Manchester United facing newly promoted Hull City. Gerrard’s return to the spotlight as a pundit underscores his enduring relevance in football, particularly as he may be involved in discussions surrounding his former club when they host Nottingham Forest at Anfield the following weekend. This role provides Gerrard a platform to remain engaged in the game after his managerial stint, further solidifying his status in the football landscape.
As the season unfolds, his seasoned insight is likely to provide rich context to the narrative of this year’s Premier League action, reminding fans of the thin line where sports analysis and football lore intertwine.
