Teenage golf star Jessica Bang has died at the age of 18 after suffering a brain haemorrhage while preparing for a tournament in Thailand, reports BritPanorama.
Bang collapsed on August 1 and was swiftly transported to a hospital in Bangkok, where she underwent emergency brain surgery. After nearly two weeks in intensive care, she passed away on August 13.
In a statement, the WPGA Tour of Australasia praised Bang as an “outstanding young talent”, expressing condolences to her family and friends during this “incredibly difficult time”.
Her cousins have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help with medical expenses, which has raised almost $50,000 AUD (£26,100). They described Bang as an aspiring athlete with a promising future, having recently qualified for her rookie season on the WPGA/KLPGA tour.
The cousins released a heartfelt message prior to her death, celebrating Bang’s achievements in golf and her bright future, as she had already won titles such as the Ford NSW Regional Championship in February 2026. They also detailed the need for donations to cover significant medical bills and her repatriation, which would require specialized transport.
Following news of her death, they thanked supporters for their overwhelming kindness: “We are truly heartbroken by this news. However, we would like to continue to remember Jessica and celebrate her achievements.” They highlighted her vibrant personality and sense of humour, which, they said, will always be cherished by their family.
Jessica Bang’s passing leaves a void in the golfing community, a reminder of how quickly fortunes can change in the life of a young athlete. As tributes pour in, there is a collective hope that her legacy inspires others in their sporting aspirations.
