Bryson DeChambeau expresses desire to play on PGA Tour amid LIV Golf uncertainties
Bryson DeChambeau has stated he “would love to play on the PGA Tour” as discussions about LIV Golf’s future continue, reports BritPanorama.
The American golfer, widely regarded as a prominent figure in the breakaway LIV Golf circuit, has shared aspirations for participating in both the LIV events and the PGA Tour. DeChambeau articulated his vision of having stadiums dedicated to the game of golf, similar to the TPC Sawgrass model used by the PGA Tour. “My ultimate goal is to have golf course stadiums, similar to the PGA Tour’s TPC Sawgrass model,” he noted during a recent interview.
DeChambeau has faced challenges this year, notably missing the cut in three of the four majors. However, he remains optimistic about his future, asserting that he is “100 per cent” sure of participating in the LIV circuit next year, despite ongoing uncertainties surrounding the league’s landscape.
Scott O’Neil, CEO of LIV Golf, recently confirmed a new investment package secured by the league, aiming to launch a “new era” for LIV Golf. O’Neil emphasized that the league will transition into a model where players become majority equity holders, a novel approach for major sports leagues. He stated, “We anticipate finalising terms in the coming weeks, with the goal of entering a transaction in September.”
In light of the league’s precarious financial situation after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced plans to withdraw support by the end of the season, DeChambeau and other players are navigating a period of uncertainty. His leadership in recent players’ meetings indicates a potential shift of influence towards the players themselves. With key golfers such as Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton also in question regarding their futures in LIV, DeChambeau’s remarks reflect a broader sentiment among athletes about the evolving dynamics in professional golf.
