Jadon Sancho trains at non-league Flixton FC as he awaits his next career move
Former England star Jadon Sancho has been keeping himself match-fit at a 10th-tier football club while he waits to discover where the next chapter of his career will take him, reports BritPanorama.
The winger, who left Manchester United as a free agent earlier this summer following a disappointing spell at Old Trafford, has been using the facilities of North West Counties League Division One North side Flixton FC.
Sancho’s appearance at the club’s Valley Ground quickly sparked speculation online, prompting Flixton to issue a public statement explaining why the former Borussia Dortmund star had been training there. The non-league outfit stressed there was never any suggestion Sancho was joining the club, insisting he had simply chosen the venue for private fitness work as he weighs up his next move.
In their statement, the club said: “Over the past few days, we’ve seen a number of posts and comments circulating regarding Jadon Sancho’s visit to Flixton FC. To clarify, Jadon was not on trial with the club and was not involved in any transfer discussions. He simply used our facilities for a private training session to maintain his fitness while preparing for the next chapter of his career.” Flixton also praised the quality of their facilities, indicating that even a player of Sancho’s calibre found it suitable for training.
The club expressed their appreciation for the 26-year-old’s professional conduct during his visit, highlighting that he took time to meet supporters after his session. The statement continued: “During his visit, Jadon was nothing but professional, humble, and generous with his time. He happily met with young supporters, posed for photos, signed autographs, and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.”
Sancho’s departure from Manchester United concluded a turbulent five-year spell after he arrived from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £73 million in 2021. Despite high expectations, he struggled to establish himself, with his relationship deteriorating dramatically with then-manager Erik ten Hag following questions about his training performances.
After publicly rejecting claims about his training, Sancho spent months away from the first-team picture, eventually returning to Dortmund on loan during the second half of the 2023-24 campaign. Further temporary spells followed at Chelsea and Aston Villa, with Sancho making history by reaching three successive European finals with three different clubs in three separate competitions. His long-term future, however, remains unresolved.
Reports have linked the former England international with a move to Qatar, where Al-Rayyan are said to be monitoring his situation, while Atletico Madrid have also shown interest. For now, though, Sancho’s focus remains on staying in peak condition ahead of the new season.
