Eddie Hearn responds to Tyson Fury’s doubts ahead of Joshua showdown
Eddie Hearn, promoter for Anthony Joshua, has issued a firm retort to Tyson Fury after the former heavyweight champion hinted that their anticipated all-British clash might still fall through, reports BritPanorama.
The two fighters are set to face each other later this year, with a high-profile bout scheduled for November, contingent upon both successfully completing their respective return fights this weekend. Joshua will take on unbeaten puncher Kristian Prenga on Saturday, while Fury is slated to fight veteran Mariusz Wach on Friday, viewed as critical preparatory matches preceding a potentially historic contest in British boxing.
Fury’s recent comments raised concerns, revealing that he was open to fighting “somebody else” should the Joshua matchup not materialise, imparting further uncertainty on the showdown.
Hearn swiftly countered these remarks, asserting that Joshua has consistently fulfilled every fight agreement during his career and questioned Fury’s own reliability. “Look at history,” Hearn stated during an interview with Sky Sports. “Check the facts, check the resume. If you really want to pick one fighter who’s more reliable than the other, I don’t think it’s a close-run race.” He emphasized Joshua’s track record, pointing out that he has never pulled out of a fight.
“He’s got the most solid resume and the most professional attitude of any fighter I’ve ever worked with. Can we say the same about Tyson Fury? No. That’s the reality of the situation,” Hearn added. Furthermore, he referenced the 2021 failed agreement between the heavyweights, concerning an arbitration ruling that forced Fury to complete a trilogy bout against Deontay Wilder instead of facing Joshua.
“If odds are being thrown around about who might pull out of this fight, trust me, it isn’t Anthony Joshua,” Hearn continued. He noted that AJ has faced every contender available and had previously signed to fight Fury, who had to withdraw due to the arbitration ruling.
Despite the ongoing tension, Joshua chose not to engage extensively with questions about Fury during his pre-fight press conference.
