Boxer Hannah Rapp killed in cycling accident
American boxer Hannah Rapp has been killed at the age of 26 after a vehicle struck her while she was cycling in Texas on Saturday, reports BritPanorama.
According to the Brazos County sheriff’s office, the 26-year-old was riding along a highway when a car overtook her before abruptly stopping and reversing into her. Emergency services transported Rapp to hospital, where medical staff confirmed her death.
Authorities have taken the driver into custody and filed manslaughter charges in connection with the incident.
Rapp had been making significant strides in her professional boxing career prior to her tragic death. Just last month, she contested the WBC women’s featherweight championship in Orlando, facing Tiara Brown in a bid to claim the world title. Brown emerged victorious from that encounter, handing Rapp her only professional defeat.
Rapp concluded her ring career with an impressive record of eight victories, a single loss, and one draw. Having only entered the professional ranks in 2024, her rapid ascent to a world title fight was commendable.
The WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman, paid tribute to Rapp, stating: “She was an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family.” Brown reflected on her experience fighting Rapp, recalling a touching moment before their bout when Rapp had asked for her autograph. “It filled my heart because we were getting ready for war, yet she was still asking for my autograph,” Brown said.
Before dedicating herself to boxing, Rapp had competed in athletics and balanced her sporting ambitions with her job as a fire and life safety inspector. Her promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, released a statement honoring her memory: “Hannah made a lasting impression on everyone who had the opportunity to meet her. She was a gifted athlete, a valued member of the boxing community, and someone who was deeply respected by those around her.”
