Attempted robbery at Lamine Yamal’s Barcelona home
Lamine Yamal’s £9.5million Barcelona property has been the victim of an attempted robbery after Spain beat France to reach the World Cup final, reports BritPanorama.
The Spanish winger earned a penalty during his side’s impressive 2-0 semi-final triumph over France, with his girlfriend, Ines Garcia Santos, celebrating from the stands.
At his home, two individuals wearing hoods were seen perched on a wall surrounding the property. The intruders fled after the footballer’s private security team activated emergency protocols upon detecting them on surveillance cameras.
Catalan police later arrived and have opened an investigation into the attempted robbery. Officers obtained images of the suspects from the property’s surveillance footage, with the Criminal Investigation Division now working to establish their identities.
This mansion was previously the residence of former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and pop star Shakira prior to their separation in 2022. Yamal had showcased the property in a video tour filmed before departing for the World Cup tournament.
The attempted break-in aligns with a concerning trend affecting Barcelona players; earlier this year, two of Yamal’s teammates were victims of burglaries. Defender Pau Cubarsi had an expensive watch stolen, while goalkeeper Joan Garcia reported cash and jewellery missing from his residence.
Cubarsi and Yamal played crucial roles in Spain’s successful qualification for the World Cup final with an impressive performance against France. The match featured tactical control from Luis de la Fuente’s side, highlighted by Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty conversion after Lucas Digne fouled Yamal.
Pedro Porro doubled Spain’s advantage shortly before the hour mark, finishing clinically after a neat combination with Dani Olmo. France managed only two attempts at goal, failing to trouble the Spanish goalkeeper throughout the match.
With Rodri dominating the midfield and defenders Cubarsi and Aymeric Laporte thwarting French advances, Spain extended their unbeaten sequence to 37 matches across all competitions, equalling a European record.
As Didier Deschamps prepares for his final match as France manager, Spain now turns its attention to the final, awaiting the outcome of the second semi-final between England and Argentina. The shadow of off-pitch issues juxtaposes with the soaring ambitions on the field, reminding us how tightly woven sport and the realities of modern life truly are.
