Lawrence Shankland completes transfer to Rangers
Lawrence Shankland has cited the fulfilment of a lifelong dream as a significant factor in his decision to complete a move from Hearts to Rangers, reports BritPanorama.
The prolific Scotland striker has agreed to a transfer to Ibrox after Rangers acted swiftly to secure one of the top forwards in the Scottish Premiership, following another impressive season at Tynecastle.
Shankland, who becomes the first signing of the summer under new Rangers boss Danny Rohl, was identified as a key target for the club ahead of the new season. During his last campaign in Edinburgh, the former Hearts captain scored 20 goals and provided six assists in 34 appearances, playing a crucial role in the club’s title challenge.
Despite Hearts falling short against Celtic on the final day of the season, where Shankland scored in a dramatic match, the transfer was facilitated by a release clause included in his contract extension with the club. This clause allowed him to leave for a relatively modest fee, paving the way for Rangers’ approach.
Shankland, a lifelong supporter of Rangers, was quick to agree to personal terms once the club’s interest intensified. He even shortened his holiday to complete a medical ahead of the official transfer, which will take effect when the window opens on June 15. The forward has signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional season, set to wear the famous No 7 shirt at Rangers.
After finalising the move, Shankland expressed his excitement, stating, “I am delighted to be here and to have this opportunity. Rangers is my boyhood club, and it has always been a dream to play here.” He further added, “The club are in a position where they want to get back to winning silverware more regularly. And I want to be a big part of that, so that’s what I have come here to do.”
Shankland heads to Rangers with the aim of helping restore the club to a position of success while preparing to join the Scotland squad for the 2026 World Cup in North America. His departure from Hearts concludes a fruitful four-year spell, tallying 88 goals across 171 appearances.
In a landscape where player loyalty frequently shifts, Shankland’s move stands as a reminder of the deep ties that football clubs forge with their local talent, resonating within Scottish football as fans now look towards what this new chapter holds.
