Fury’s next opponent confirmed as speculation mounts
Frank Warren has dismissed speculation that Tyson Fury will face Andy Ruiz Jr in his next bout, while confirming the heavyweight star is keen to return to the ring before a blockbuster showdown with Anthony Joshua, reports BritPanorama.
Rumours had gained traction recently after Fury posted a cryptic video on social media teasing “big news” while wearing a Mexico football shirt. Some observers speculated that Ruiz might be lined up as a potential next opponent.
However, promoter Frank Warren quickly moved to quell those theories. In comments to The Sun, the 74-year-old indicated that although Fury is eager for another fight before any much-anticipated encounter with Joshua, Ruiz is not under consideration.
“He will fight, he wants to fight – he’s made that very clear,” Warren stated. “He doesn’t want to be back in the ring by November, which I think will be a gap of about seven or eight months. He wants to fight, he doesn’t want to be rusty again and he wants to get in there, but it won’t be against Andy Ruiz.”
Warren also expressed optimism about the chances of Fury boxing again ahead of his match with Joshua. “I think there’s a very, very good chance,” he said, reinforcing the idea that Fury is likely to return as soon as possible.
A return in August has been widely discussed, which would give Fury the opportunity to sharpen up before facing Joshua later in the year. The 37-year-old last fought in April, when he outpointed Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Joshua is also expected to compete in a comeback contest of his own, reportedly set to face unbeaten heavyweight Kristian Prenga in Riyadh on July 25. Both camps appear eager to ensure their fighters enter any future showdown in peak condition.
A clash between Fury and Joshua has long been considered the biggest all-British fight in boxing, retaining its status as one of the most anticipated contests in the sport. With both fighters preparing for significant bouts, the narrative of rivalry and redemption continues to swirl in the lead-up to what many consider a defining moment in heavyweight boxing.
As speculation fuels the flames of expectation, there remains a palpable sense of tension — with fans waiting to see how fortunes will shift in this long-anticipated saga.
