Amazon Prime coverage faces backlash amid Arsenal versus Atletico Madrid clash
Amazon Prime has been criticised by fans for its coverage of the Champions League semi-final between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid, pointing to a perceived bias towards the Gunners, reports BritPanorama.
Mikel Arteta’s side faced Diego Simeone’s team with the winner set to secure a place in the final against either PSG or Bayern Munich. As the game approached, fans took to social media to express discontent over the streaming platform’s broadcast, labelling it as “biased.”
One viewer remarked, “I pay for Amazon Prime coverage not AFTV. This isn’t impartial and is a disgrace.” Another critic noted, “Christ this Amazon Prime coverage is painful,” while multiple users expressed their frustration towards pundit Theo Walcott’s commentary.
The Gunners headed into the match on level terms after a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week. Prior to the contest, a number of Arsenal supporters set off fireworks outside Atletico’s hotel in Shoreditch, London, around 1:30 am, a move that the Spanish club later reported to UEFA. Atletico opted for alternate accommodation this time, having previously suffered a heavy defeat in London.
In response to speculation surrounding their hotel choice, Simeone commented with humour, “We are doing better than in October and the hotel was cheaper. That’s why we changed.” He expressed confidence in his squad’s preparations, stating, “We are convinced about what we need to do.”
The Gunners were buoyed by a convincing 3-0 win against Fulham leading into the match, while Atletico Madrid has reached the Champions League final twice under Simeone’s management, losing to their rivals Real Madrid on both occasions.
This high-stakes match not only encapsulates the tension of European football but also serves as a reminder of the different perspectives surrounding coverage and support—how even amid fierce rivalry, the voice of the fans amplifies the drama unfolding on pitch.
