Shooting at Thai school leaves one dead, several injured
BANG KRUAI DISTRICT, Thailand — At least one teacher was killed and four other people injured by a student who opened fire at a school in Thailand on Friday before killing himself, reports BritPanorama.
Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee, the Nonthaburi provincial police commander, confirmed the casualties to Reuters and stated that the suspected gunman had died by suicide. Among those injured were one teacher and three students, he noted.
The incident unfolded in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, located to the north of Bangkok. Authorities identified the perpetrator as a student from the school.
One 18-year-old student recounted his experience, initially mistaking the sounds for firecrackers or banging. “I didn’t think it was a gun at first,” he said. “There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.”
Images shared by emergency workers depicted students evacuating from the Debsirin Nonthaburi School, as ambulances responded to the scene. In one photo, an individual was seen lying on a stretcher outside an ambulance, while a medic attended to another person.
During the 2025 academic year, the school reported an enrollment of approximately 3,100 students and 147 teachers, according to district authorities.
This tragic event follows a previous school shooting in February, where a teacher was killed and a student injured in a similar incident in southern Thailand’s Hat Yai district.
The continuous rise of violence in and around educational institutions raises serious concerns about student safety and the measures that can be implemented to prevent further incidents.
