Trump announces oil exploration plans in Greenland
President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that “massive” oil, gas and mineral exploration is getting ready to begin in Greenland, reports BritPanorama.
While Trump did not elaborate on the specifics of the exploration plans, he indicated that “there are experts that are saying that the amount of easily available oil is far greater than that of almost any land, anywhere in the world.”
Last month, the United States, Denmark and Greenland signed an agreement aimed at alleviating tensions following Trump’s repeated suggestions of taking control of the strategically significant and mineral-rich island.
In his remarks on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the strategic military importance of Greenland, stating, “Any future attack on the United States will have to come across Greenland, where our Defense will routinely knock down drones, missiles, or any other form of weapon not yet even conceived.”
The agreement solidifies the United States military’s presence in Greenland, permitting the establishment of two new military bases and the deployment of Trump’s proposed “Golden Dome” missile defense system. It also reaffirms Denmark’s sovereignty over Greenland while upholding the Greenlanders’ right to self-determination.
The developments underscore ongoing geopolitical maneuvers in the Arctic, promising to reshape the region’s energy landscape and security dynamics.
