Missile strikes in Ukraine lead to casualties and evacuations
A missile launched from Russia’s Voronezh region struck a family home in Ukraine, resulting in multiple casualties and warnings that the death toll could rise as rescue efforts continue, reports BritPanorama.
In Lviv, near the Polish border, emergency responders worked tirelessly to clear debris from two apartment buildings damaged by Russian missiles, leaving 26 people injured, according to local officials.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously cautioned that substantial Russian attacks were imminent, emphasizing that the safety of Ukrainians hinged on the support of allies in providing anti-missile defenses.
“It is important that our partners fully understand what is happening and that the protection of people’s lives depends directly on their willingness,” Zelenskyy communicated via Telegram.
In a broader military context, Russia’s defense ministry claimed responsibility for strikes across a range of regions in Ukraine, targeting both military installations and civilian infrastructure from Kyiv to Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk, as well as three cargo ships.
Amid the strikes, Poland, an EU and NATO member, deployed fighter jets to safeguard its airspace. The Polish armed forces reported a loud bang in Bilgoraj county, prompting police to discover a crater and debris from an unidentified object in a local field.
Additionally, a warehouse operated by Russian online retailer Wildberries was ignited during a drone attack in Penza, according to regional governor Oleg Melnichenko. One individual suffered injuries, and approximately 200 people were evacuated from the scene, which follows a pattern of repeated attacks on the company’s facilities in Russia.
Another facility in Sarapul in Udmurtia region also caught fire due to a separate drone strike, further exacerbating the challenges for ordinary Russians reliant on online sales as a primary income source. As Ukraine intensifies its operations against energy facilities and refineries, the fuel crisis deepens across the largest country by area.
