Russia intensifies missile attacks on Kyiv
“A rocket hit the roof. It was incredibly loud, immediately, debris and doors were blown out. There were columns of smoke, columns of fire, screams, crying and despair,” a resident described after a Russian missile struck a building in Kyiv, killing two people. Russia has intensified ballistic missile attacks on the Ukrainian capital, aiming to deplete Kyiv’s air defense capabilities. Currently, Kyiv has limited systems that can intercept such ballistic threats, while the availability of missiles for its U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems remains significantly restricted.
In response to these escalating threats, Ukraine has ramped up its campaign of long-range strikes targeting weapons depots and military installations deep within Russian territory. This strategy aims to undermine Moscow’s ability to sustain its offensive against Ukrainian cities.
Additionally, former President Donald Trump had authorized Ukraine to produce Patriot air-defense systems but later reversed that decision, impacting the timeline and execution of Kyiv’s air defense strategy.
