Russian forces strike Kyiv with drones and missiles

Russian forces attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv with drones and missiles overnight, injuring five as they hit residential buildings and triggering a fire in a hotel on a central boulevard, reports BritPanorama.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, writing on Telegram, confirmed that the hotel roof was ablaze. Images shared online depicted a fire engulfing the top of the building on Shevchenko Boulevard.

In a subsequent Telegram post, Klitschko indicated that Kyiv endured a ballistic missile attack, resulting in injuries to five individuals in one of the central districts. Witnesses reported multiple explosions throughout the city.

Residents became trapped in a damaged nine-story residential building, and the roof of another high-rise apartment structure caught fire, Klitschko noted.

Further images circulated on unofficial Telegram channels showed local inhabitants crowding into underground stations for safety.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had cautioned that intelligence reports indicated a significant overnight attack was imminent, prompting him to cut short his trip to Dublin, where he was attending the start of Ireland’s six-month presidency of the EU.

The situation in Kyiv underscores the ongoing volatility in the region as attacks continue to disrupt daily life.
