Yael Trepy in intensive care after incident in swimming pool
Serie A forward Yael Trepy is in intensive care after losing consciousness in a swimming pool in Sardinia, Italy, reports BritPanorama.
Trepy’s club, Cagliari, released a statement confirming that the 20-year-old is receiving treatment at Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari. According to reports from Sardinian newspaper Unione Sarda, the Frenchman was airlifted to the hospital following the incident at a villa.
The club stated: “The club is in constant contact with the healthcare facility and the player’s family and is closely monitoring the progress of his condition.” In another statement, Cagliari expressed their support, saying, “At this time, Cagliari Calcio’s thoughts are with Yael and his family,” while requesting respect for their privacy and promising updates as they become available.
Trepy had played 54 minutes in Cagliari’s last match before the incident, which followed a weekend off after a 1-0 victory over Arezzo in the Coppa Italia. He started in attacking midfield, in front of former Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks, and had previously scored once in the league last season after joining Cagliari’s academy in 2022.
After rising through the youth ranks, Trepy featured prominently for Cagliari Primavera, participating in 24 games and scoring 11 goals in the top division of youth football in Italy. Originally from France, he began his career at US Creteil-Lusitanos.
The incident highlights the unpredictable nature of safety around sports activities, underscoring the need for stringent safety measures, especially in recreational environments. As updates emerge regarding Trepy’s condition, they will be closely watched by fans and the broader football community, reflecting a collective concern for players’ well-being.
