Xavi Simons involved in heated exchange after injury during Tottenham's relegation battle against Wolves

Tottenham’s Xavi Simons stretchered off in Wolves clash

Tottenham midfielder Xavi Simons was stretchered off during his team’s relegation battle against Wolves, prompting a heated exchange with home supporters, reports BritPanorama.

The 23-year-old went down awkwardly near the Wolves byline in the second half. Although he initially attempted to continue, he ultimately collapsed on the pitch in visible distress.

Medical staff attended to Simons before he was taken around the perimeter of the field. Video footage from social media captured some home fans directing abuse at him as he was wheeled away.

In response to the taunts, Simons appeared to shout “f*** you” toward a vocal Wolves supporter. Following the match, Tottenham’s manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed concern regarding the nature of Simons’ knee injury, while also providing updates about Dominic Solanke’s condition.

De Zerbi stated, “I hope both are not too important problems, especially for Xavi, because Solanke is a muscular injury. For Xavi, it’s a knee, and when there is a knee it’s a more tough situation.”

His sentiments were echoed as he explained a potential timeline for updates on both players: “We’re going to see in the next days, Monday or Tuesday.” He added, “Xavi felt pain, but now I spoke with him two minutes ago, he feels better than at the beginning of the injury.”

In a moment of competitive redemption, Joao Palhinha’s late strike confirmed Tottenham’s first Premier League win since December, providing a glimmer of hope in their fight against relegation.

However, this victory was dampened by West Ham’s last-minute win over Everton, which left Tottenham still in the relegation zone, struggling to avoid dropping out of the top flight for the first time since 1977.

The impact of Simons’ injury is significant for Tottenham, which is already facing a challenging season with several key players on the sidelines. With England international James Maddison also still not fit to compete, the stakes continue to rise for Spurs as they navigate a critical period in their campaign.

As the final whistle blew, the resilience of the squad was on display, but so too was the thin line that separates talk of survival from the reality of injury concerns. The coming days will be crucial for assessing the long-term implications of Simons’ injury, both for his club and his ambitions on the international stage.
