Snooker fans express outrage at BBC for cutting crucial World Championship coverage

Angry viewers react as BBC cuts snooker coverage

Snooker fans were left absolutely fuming with the BBC after coverage of Judd Trump’s World Championship second-round battle against Hossein Vafaei was pulled from BBC2 at the worst possible moment, reports BritPanorama.

Viewers found themselves abruptly cut off during the crucial deciding frame, leaving them to frantically search for the continuation of the match, which had been shifted to iPlayer and BBC4. Many fans reported difficulties locating the coverage, as the programme guide provided little assistance in finding this thrilling encounter.

Social media was flooded with angry comments from viewers venting their frustration. One fan on X noted, “The @BBC coverage of the world championship snooker is appalling. Trump vs Hossein going to a deciding 25th frame and they take it off BBC2. Yes, it’s on iPlayer live but just keep the final frame on a mainstream channel.” Another user referred to the situation as a “shambles,” explaining they had to rewatch the ending on iPlayer just to learn the match had moved to BBC4.

As the viewers struggled to find the match, the dramatic conclusion unfolded. Vafaei produced a remarkable comeback, winning the final two frames after trailing 12-11, ultimately clinching a 13-12 victory to secure his place in the quarter-finals. For Trump, however, the evening marked a disappointing end to a campaign he deemed frustrating. “Yeah disappointing session tonight,” he told reporters afterward, adding, “Had a great chance in the last frame as well, just run out of position straight away, just sums up my season really.”

Despite the broadcast chaos, Trump managed to offer encouragement to Vafaei following their match, suggesting that the Iranian player “just needs to believe in himself a little more.” He acknowledged Vafaei’s potential, stating, “I think he’s more than good enough to win all kinds of events.” This result means Trump’s challenging season has concluded prematurely at the Crucible, igniting conversations about both his performance and the reliability of the BBC’s sporting coverage.

In a competition where every frame counts and the stakes are high, the combination of dramatic on-table action and media blunders has created a scenario that leaves fans both exasperated and reflective. It’s a reminder that in sport, as in life, the finer details can sometimes overshadow the brilliance of the performance itself.
