Roy Keane criticises Manchester United after disappointing draw with West Ham

Roy Keane has taken aim at Manchester United following their 1-1 draw against West Ham on Thursday night, as the Red Devils missed the opportunity to climb to fifth in the Premier League standings with another lackluster showing at Old Trafford, reports BritPanorama.

Diogo Dalot opened the scoring for United, but the visitors equalised late in the match through Soungoutou Magassa. Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham side nearly snatched all three points, with Jarrod Bowen proving pivotal in the dying minutes of the game.

After the final whistle, United were met with a chorus of boos from the home crowd, reflecting the frustration over their performance, which leaves them two points shy of Chelsea in fourth place. The pressure is mounting on manager Ruben Amorim, who has struggled to extract the best from his squad since his appointment last November.

Keane did not hold back in his criticism of his former team, accusing them of lacking the courage required to secure victories in crucial matches. “After they get the goal, you are playing against a team in the bottom three, they take their foot off the gas,” he stated. “Take nothing away from West Ham and they just about deserved the equaliser.”

“You are just putting yourself under pressure. Every time I watch this United team, they disappoint. They aren’t clinical; they weren’t nasty enough to get the job done,” Keane added, expressing his disbelief at their inconsistency. “One minute they are making progress, win and you go fifth. There will be a lot of frustration.”

Pointing to recent performances, he indicated that the team’s quality has diminished, particularly citing the last few games. “In their last three or four games, I think it has been desperate. Really poor. An opportunity to get the job done, and they were almost frightened,” he remarked.

Keane further lamented the squad’s depth, specifically in attacking positions, highlighting a lack of presence and intensity among the players. Critique was particularly directed at Mason Mount, who Keane claimed “looked like a schoolboy” after coming on as a substitute.

Additionally, he questioned the players’ mentality, expressing concern over their apparent fear in critical situations. “If anything, they brought the levels down at United. That seemed to be the case tonight,” he suggested, echoing a sentiment aimed at the overall defensive and midfield challenges facing the team.

As Manchester United grapple with their identity amid ongoing struggles, Keane’s insights underline a pressing need for reflection and revitalisation. How this once-illustrious team rises from the ashes remains uncertain, yet the challenges are laid bare, stark and undeniable.
