Rory McIlroy returns to action at the Truist Championship
Rory McIlroy is back in action this week after taking a well-earned four-week break following his stunning Masters defence in April, reports BritPanorama.
The six-time major champion will tee it up at the Truist Championship, the PGA Tour’s sixth Signature Event of the season, at Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina. McIlroy has an impressive history at this course, having secured victory four times previously.

McIlroy, who celebrated his 37th birthday on Monday, arrived at Quail Hollow in high spirits. His record at this venue is nothing short of remarkable, having claimed trophies in 2010, 2015, 2021, and 2024. He also holds the course record with a stunning 10-under par 61 from 2010.
However, he will look to improve upon last year’s performance at the PGA Championship held here, where he finished tied for 47th at three-over par. McIlroy is aware that the challenge remains significant, particularly on the demanding closing stretch.
Fitzpatrick is enjoying a breakthrough season, having achieved three victories in 2026, including a notable win at the Zurich Classic where he partnered with his brother Alex. His recent form has been impressive; he became the first player since Scottie Scheffler in 2024 to win back-to-back events, showcasing prowess in both approach play and short game.
World number one Scottie Scheffler is notably absent from this event, opting to rest before defending his title at the PGA Championship. Meanwhile, Cameron Young arrives as one of the most formidable players in the field, fresh off a commanding victory at the Cadillac Championship, where he won by six shots.
In the mix is also defending champion Sepp Straka, who finished tied for fourth last week, adding further intrigue to the competition.
