Carrick wishes Ferguson well after hospital scare

Michael Carrick has sent his best wishes to Sir Alex Ferguson after the legendary former Manchester United manager was taken to hospital before Sunday’s clash with Liverpool, reports BritPanorama.

The interim boss acknowledged that news of Ferguson’s illness affected him prior to the 3-2 victory at Old Trafford. Carrick expressed concern and hope for Ferguson’s recovery, stating, “I did hear about it before the game. All I can say is I was very affected by it, the news.”

Ferguson, 84, received medical treatment at the ground before being transported to hospital by ambulance. Eyewitnesses reported that he appeared to be “okay” despite the alarming incident. Manchester United have not issued any statement regarding the situation and declined to comment further.

Carrick indicated he had no updates on Ferguson’s condition following the match, expressing a collective hope for his former boss: “We hope for him to be in good shape and we wish him all the best and certainly thinking of him. Hopefully, the result, when he hears about it, gives him a good boost.”

The victory over Liverpool was crucial for Manchester United, securing their place in next season’s Champions League with three matches remaining. It also marked Carrick’s tenth win from 14 games since taking over the managerial role, a run that has significantly improved the club’s European prospects.

Carrick’s record has been notable, maintaining a perfect winning streak against the Premier League’s top five teams, including previous victories over Manchester City and Arsenal. After the win against Liverpool, United currently sits third in the table, six points clear of their Merseyside rivals.

When asked about his future as manager, Carrick noted, “We’ll have to wait and see,” acknowledging the unexpected trajectory of their season. He remarked, “Champions League, to be honest, was a little bit in the distance and we wanted to try and get back into Europe. So to be where we are, all the players have put together with three games to spare, is a good achievement.”

The incident underscores the deep connections within football, reminding fans and players alike of the humanity at the heart of the sport. In times of crisis, it is the shared fraternity that often shines through, both on and off the pitch.
